Dr. William Utendale obtained his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University in Montréal, and did his Psychology post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary…

in early psychosis intervention. Dr. Utendale then completed his medical degree at the University of Calgary where he developed a strong interest in Health Psychology and the impact of chronic/severe illness on psychological health. Dr. Utendale is approved by the College of Psychologists of Ontario in both Clinical and Rehabilitation Psychology.

Prior to coming to the OCCT, Dr. Utendale worked for the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta as part of the head injury rehabilitation team and PTSD assessment team. He has considerable experience in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD and health-related issues. He also has a keen interest in marginalization/gender issues. Dr. Utendale is the head of our Couples & Family Therapy program and enjoys working with couples and families in distress. In addition, Dr. Utendale is licensed to work with Seniors experiencing age-related challenges. He is highly trained in cognitive therapy as well as third-wave techniques including ACT, DBT and mindfulness. His research and professional publications are in the areas of prosocial development and behavioural difficulties in children.

Dr. Utendale believes strongly in unconditional positive regard during treatment and has a warm and engaging interpersonal style.
