Dr. Martyn Gabel graduated with a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Waterloo. His research has focused on…

understanding the impact of our emotions on addressing or avoiding our goals. The aim of Dr. Gabel’s research was to foster a deeper understanding of the function of various emotional states such as depression, anxiety and anger, and how they affect our thoughts and behaviours.

Dr. Gabel completed his Doctoral Residency at the University of British Columbia Counselling Services working with those dealing with complex life stressors, depression, anxiety, trauma and anger issues, before starting at the OCCT. He has also had previous clinical experience at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, specializing in adolescent mental health and well-being.

Dr. Gabel currently works with both adolescent and adult individuals who struggle with a wide range of underlying mental health concerns. He particularly enjoys working with clients with depression, anxiety, personality issues, trauma, work/life balance and workplace stressors.

He specializes in providing a non-judgmental understanding of current functioning and in building a collaborative plan to alleviate mental distress. Dr. Gabel works hard to help individuals adapt to their environment in a way that makes sense for them. He utilizes techniques from a wide range of psychotherapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC).
