Catherine Zuro brings over 35 years of clinical experience, education, and expert supervision to her work at the Ottawa Centre for Cognitive Therapy. She uses a variety of Cognitive Therapy techniques to help her clients overcome challenges, and is known for her sense of humor and compassionate nature that makes clients feel seen, understood, and supported as they work towards achieving their mental health goals.

Experience and Approach

Ms. Zuro’s journey began in Ottawa where she grew up and later pursued her studies at Queen’s University, graduating with an Honours B.A. in 1983.

After completing her undergraduate studies, she gained valuable experience at the Royal Ottawa Hospital Neuropsychology Laboratory as a Neuropsychology Technician. Her dedication to psychology led her to pursue graduate studies at Carleton University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in 1987. During this time, Ms. Zuro also worked as a Clinical Research Assistant at the Ottawa Eating Disorder Clinic under the supervision of Dr. Arthur Blouin.

In 1995, Ms. Zuro joined the Ottawa Eating Disorder Clinic and Blouin & Blouin and Associates. Since then, she has been involved in both assessment and treatment services, helping hundreds of individuals struggling with eating disorders.

Her clients have come to appreciate her blend of humor, acceptance, and empathy, which allows her to create a supportive and trusting therapeutic environment.

Achievements and Research

Ms. Catherine Zuro’s accomplishments include becoming a Certified Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in 1991. She has also achieved Advanced Certification in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, a specialized form of Cognitive Therapy, from the Albert Ellis Institute in New York.

Her research on eating disorders has been published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, contributing to the broader understanding of the relationship between family dynamics, depression, and eating disorders. Her commitment to continuous learning and expert supervision ensures that her clients benefit from the latest and most effective therapeutic practices.
