Abeer Mourad, M.A., PhD, Registered Psychotherapist (RP)

Ms. Abeer Mourad is a registered psychotherapist (RP) who has completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University. She also has a Doctorate in Cognitive Science from Carleton University, which she completed following her Psychology Honors at Carleton. Her research focused on cognitive attentional and memory processes. She has also completed research related to cultural differences in attributions of blame in cases of domestic violence.

Ms. Mourad has experience in providing psychotherapy to individuals and groups for the treatment of issues relating to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm, anger, procrastination, interpersonal relationships, ADHD, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.  She has worked extensively with clients with a history of trauma at the Ottawa Centre for the Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma. She works extremely well with both adolescents and adults.

Ms. Mourad practices an integrative, client centered approach, thus drawing from a variety of interventions that are tailored to the client. These include interventions from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), CBT-E and REBT and related “third wave” approaches including Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness.  She integrates state of the art evidence-based interventions in her therapeutic approach, thus providing top-level care and service to clients.  She works with adolescents and adults coping with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, personality disorders, stress management and interpersonal relationship challenges. Ms. Mourad works under the supervision of Dr. Jane Blouin, Dr. Arthur Blouin and Catherine Zuro, C. Psych. Assoc. Most importantly, Ms. Mourad works with her clients from a collaborative, non-judgmental, and compassionate approach.
